Take Charge this June by eating Healthier and Exercising more!

This month, Wellbeing at Work want to highlight Healthy Eating Week and Bike Week as well as Men's Health Week with additional supporting information. This is not only to benefit you physically by moving more, eating healthier food but also your mental wellbeing - it always goes hand in hand! We also want to share highlights from last month, including what Champions did for Mental Health Awareness Week, National Walking Month, Physical Health and Healthier Eating from our Wider Wellbeing Team and much more!

It's 100 Years of Bike Week!
Let's get cycling and celebrate!

From the 5th of June until the 11th it is Bike Week! An annual celebration of cycling, in partnership with Cycling UK! Bike Week's aim is to motivate and encourage more people to put the car keys away and get cycling more often.

Cycling is a brilliant way to help our bodies and minds stay healthy, it also helps us to get outside and see the beautiful sceneries around us, get active in a low impact way as well as connect with others as cycling is a great group activity!

You can do loads in your workplace to promote bike week as well as help continue the progress for more individuals to cycle to work instead of drive. You can do anything to promote this something as little as putting up posters in your workplace, asking staff to cycle to work instead of drive, to even organising a work event!

Get Cooking for Healthy Eating Week!

Healthy Eating Week arrives on the 12th of June until the 16th and it is here to help promote and support healthier lifestyles through healthy food, with this years theme being Healthy Eating Week - For Everyone!
The cost of living crisis is still making a significant impact on the affordability of healthier diets for so many of us. With this in mind, it is this years focus to help everyone make healthier choices and have a healthier diet, regardless of these barriers!

Promoting Healthy Eating Week within your workplace is paramount as whatever you do in work, will reflect at home with your families, children, your friends and the wider community. You can do this in an abundance of ways such as having a healthy food competition, providing cheap and healthy recipe cards for your team as well as using British Nutrition Foundation resources!

The Team supporting Wellbeing with Healthy Lunches!

It was #SandwichWeek back in May and so the Wellbeing at Work team ensured that their sandwiches were not only delicious but also healthy!

Eating healthy at work is a brilliant way to keep energy levels up, improve productivity and reduce workplace absenteeism. It has also been suggested the more variety of colour in our meals from different foods, the better our mental health is, as it helps us to boost our happy hormones!

We used a lot of inspiration from the British Nutrition Foundation for this as well as our own resources - check them out below as well as some excellent recipes from our sister programme, One You Plymouth!

Mental Health Awareness Week
with the Co-op!

The Co-op depot in Plymouth took part in Mental Health Awareness week, raising awareness about anxiety and how it can affect individuals.
With activities throughout the week, Wellbeing Champions at the Co-op helped support their colleagues with mental health resources, safe spaces for opportunities to chat if needed as well as toolkits to support managers and interactive activities for everyone to take part in, to understand anxiety, the signs and how we can support others.

Men's Health Week!

From June 12th until the 18th Wellbeing at Work will be raising awareness of men's health with the support of the Wellbeing Champions at Babcock!

At the start of 2023, we had an increase of over 50 male Wellbeing Champions join our programme and this is all thanks to Babcock International! This is a celebration in itself, as it is amazing to know that more and more individuals want to spread the wellbeing message from all different areas and backgrounds! We thought, what better way to celebrate this than using Men's Health to spotlight the men from Babcock that have joined our Wellbeing Champion Programme.

Men's health week is such a vital campaign and topic to have conversations about. It is to raise awareness and encourage more men to speak up about their physical and mental health! For this week, we will share wellbeing initiatives and activities that the Babcock Champions do within their workplace as well as some ideas from our own Wellbeing at Work Team!

Look out for our social media and website for more!

Wellbeing at Work Get Moving for National Walking Month!

The Team at Wellbeing at Work love to get involved with various challenges and wellbeing initiatives. This is to support and motivate our businesses and Wellbeing Champions involved with Wellbeing at Work!

For May, Shawnie and Charley participated in National Walking Month. This was an enjoyable campaign perfectly timed with the lovely weather we had recently in May - which looks like it may continue into June? Fingers crossed!

Shawnie used this campaign to walk more for her mental wellbeing. She enjoyed being out in nature, exploring different places and creating memories with her puppy!
Charley used this campaign as a challenge to move more and do 5K each day!

Well done to both for participating! Both were very lucky to have the sun shining throughout!
