Carers Week 2019

Do you own a business or manage a staff team? Do you know how many carers are in your workforce? Can you afford to lose them?

Did you know?
• 6.5 million people in the UK are carers.
• 1 in 7 in your workforce will be caring for someone who is older, disabled
or seriously ill.
• Without the right support, more than 600 people a day are forced to
give up work to care.

This week (10 – 16 June 2019) is Carers Week. This annual campaign raises awareness of caring, highlights the challenges unpaid carers face and recognises the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK. Employers for Carers are the headline supporter of this year’s Carers Week and this is a great opportunity for you to showcase your support for carers and also help those who don’t think of themselves as having caring responsibilities to identify as carers and access much-needed support.

Plymouth City Council is proud to be working with Employers for Carers to help SMEs and health partners in Plymouth support and keep hold of the carers in their workforces. Practical resources, advice and information is available online atefcdigital.org and is designed to help you look after staff who are juggling work alongside caring for someone. Use their unique access code #EFC2465 to register.

They also have attached various resources for you to use to support carers in your workforce but if you register with Employers for Carers there are many more available to you.

The local carers service is Caring for Carers and further information about the services they provide to carers can be found on their website at www.improvinglivesplymouth.org.uk/our-services/caring-for-carers
